Donald B. Wilbur Scholarship
Are you a high school senior about to graduate and planning to continue your education with the goal of a career in engineering or a technology-related field? Then you may wish to apply for the Donald B. Wilbur Scholarship! This $1,000 award is given annually in honor of Don Wilbur, past chairman of the board of directors of Liberty Bank.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the Donald B. Wilbur Scholarship, you must meet the following requirements:
- Graduating from a high school in the following towns: Avon, Beacon Falls, Berlin, Bloomfield, Branford, Bristol, Cheshire, Clinton, Colchester, Cromwell, Deep River, Derby, Durham, East Haddam, East Hampton, East Hartford, East Longmeadow (MA), East Lyme, Essex, Glastonbury, Granby, Groton, Haddam, Hamden, Hartford, Madison, Mansfield, Marlborough, Meriden, Middlefield, Middletown, Montville, Mystic, Naugatuck, New Britain, New Haven, New London, Newington, North Haven, Norwich, Old Saybrook, Plainville, Portland, Seymour, Shelton, Simsbury, Southbury, Southington, Wallingford, Waterbury, Waterford, West Hartford, Wethersfield, Windham, or Windsor
- Enrolling in an accredited college, university, or other institution of higher education (two-year or more) with the goal of majoring in engineering or a technology-related field
Scholarship Criteria
Applicants who meet the above requirements will be judged according to the following criteria:
- Financial need – students with EFCs of more than $10,000 will NOT be considered
- Academic achievement
- Employment, extracurricular and/or community activities
- Recommendation of a teacher, counselor, or administrator
- An essay written by the student
How to Apply
Ready to apply? Please complete all requested information, including your signature and that of your parent/guardian (if you are under 18 years old), and attach the following documents:
- Your Student Aid Report (SAR) – please include ALL pages!
- Your official transcript from your high school
- A list of your employment, extracurricular and/or community activities
- A written letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or administrator
- A 500-1000 word essay you wrote on any topic of your choice
