Bristol Eastern High School Student Hilton Chanthakhyly Receives Donald B. Wilbur Scholarship
Liberty Bank announced today that Hilton Chanthakhyly of Bristol, Connecticut, was selected as the 2023 recipient of the Donald B. Wilbur Scholarship, which is presented annually by the Liberty Bank Foundation.
Chanthakhyly is a graduate of the class of 2023 from Bristol Eastern High School and will attend the University of Connecticut this fall to pursue his studies in physics and mathematics.
In addition to having an outstanding academic standing, graduating with a 4.42 GPA, Chanthakhyly was part of the National Honor Society and Latin Honor Society. He also was a member of the Chemistry Olympiad Club and a member of Student Council.
Hilton is described by his teachers as a curious and thoughtful individual who asks powerful questions that command the attention of the entire classroom.
The Liberty Bank Foundation has awarded this $1,000 scholarship since 2008 to an exceptional high school senior in Connecticut who recently graduated and will pursue a higher education, majoring in engineering or a technology‐related field. The scholarship is named in honor of former Liberty Bank Board Chairman Donald B. Wilbur.
Donald B. Wilbur became a Corporator of Liberty Bank in 1993 and joined the Board of Directors two years later. He was elected Chairman in 2004 and served in that role until his retirement from the Board in 2008.
Since its inception in 1997, Liberty Bank Foundation has awarded over $16 million in grants to nonprofit organizations throughout Liberty Bank’s market area. Following the Bank’s Be Community Kind spirit, the Foundation seeks to improve the lives of individuals and families by investing in three key areas: Education & Training, Affordable Housing, and Food.
