LIBERTY BANK “LENDS A HAND” TO LOCAL COMMUNITIES

Jul 12, 2017

MIDDLETOWN, CT – Liberty Bank once again held its June-long ‘Liberty Lends a Hand’ campaign, which encourages all employees to do good works in their communities. Employees can take part in two ways: by forming teams and volunteering at a local nonprofit and/or by collecting goods for charities.

“We never forget that we are first and foremost a community bank,” said President & CEO Chandler J. Howard, Liberty Bank. “Putting our hands to work is one more way we can help bring vitality to our Connecticut towns and cities.”

All across the bank’s market area, 182 employees pitched in at 21 nonprofits, contributing 958 hours of service. Another 66 organizations benefitted from more than 9,300 items collected at all 55 branches and main-office departments.

“Service to others, both professionally and through volunteerism, is one of our core values,” said Howard. “I’m proud that our employees truly take this to heart and come through for their neighbors in a big way.”

Locally, employees painted the St. Vincent de Paul offices, gardened at the Amazing Grace Food Pantry, landscaped at the Eddy Shelter, helped clean and organize the Habitat for Humanity Restore.

Items collected ranged from nonperishable food, pet supplies, toiletries, toys, and diapers for agencies such as: the Amazing Grace Food Pantry, the Middletown Bookmobile, Columbus House, and Cromwell Animal Control.

“Even though we go all out in June,” said Howard, “our commitment to communities continues year-round,” said Howard.

Liberty Bank offers every employee four full paid days off for community service each year. During 2016, 344 of Liberty’s employees volunteered nearly 14,000 hours of their time to help 367 non-profit organizations, including soup kitchens, food pantries, Habitat for Humanity chapters, local schools and churches, and Boys & Girls Clubs across Liberty’s market area.

Established in 1825, Liberty Bank is Connecticut’s oldest bank, with almost $4.5 billion in assets and 55 banking offices throughout the central, eastern, and shoreline areas of the state. As a full-service financial institution, Liberty offers consumer and commercial banking, home mortgages, insurance, and investment services. Named as a “Top Workplace” by the Hartford Courant for five consecutive years, Liberty maintains a longstanding commitment to superior personal service and unparalleled community involvement.
